#MusicMonday: Jhené Aiko - 'The Worst' by Willy

With music being my passion, I am always on the look for new artists and new songs in every genre. With a little help from the Internet, everything is all easier with apps like Shazam, search engines like Google, among others but it is through iTunes Radio that I found out about this amazing artist I'm gonna tell you about. I think it was on the R&B station when a beautiful voice with a very interesting beat started playing. It was Jhené Aiko with “The Worst” which reminded me of Frank Ocean and Miguel (which is always a great thing). It also reminded me of Cassie, but then again probably her career died so Jhené's could live. After a little research about her, I ended up purchasing her EP “Sail Out” on iTunes (which you can also get by clicking HERE). I feel like an album is only so good when you can listen to it without skipping a track, on replay and in every mood possible; and her EP is one of those.

This California girl, with only 26 years old, is set up to take over the charts or at least to get enough recognition for her talent. In “The Worst” she sings about a failed relationship with someone who is bad for her but she still loves him. I think a lot of people can relate, especially with the choice of words she used to express how she feels about the man that hurt her, which helps to express emotion: "Please don't take this personal / but you ain't shit / and you weren't special / tip i made you so."

With a lot of artists not knowing what direction to take to sound fresh and stay relevant, which usually leads to them making mediocre music and then wondering why it failed to chart on Billboard and/or iTunes, Jhené Aiko comes as an answer with a new cool and mature sound. She is definitely an artist who benefited from that R&B new wave started by Miguel and Frank Ocean in 2012, she is one to watch, she is the future of R&B music if you ask me.
