Brendon Urie in the music video for "Nicotine" |
The new single is called “Nicotine” and it was an instant favorite for
me the first time I listened to the album. It was written by P!ATD members
Brendon Urie and Dallon Weekes, and Amir Salem, and the music video was directd by Kai Regan ("New Perspective"). Its meaning is very
straightforward and it’s about how hard it is to quit a person, comparing it
how hard it is to quit nicotine (cigarretes).
"'Nicotine' is about that girl (or guy) that you know is bad for you but
you just keep going back," Urie told Rolling Stone. "It's that drunk text you know you shouldn't
answer. It feels good in the moment but the next day, you know, you get that
shame hangover – kind of a personification of addiction."
About the music video, Urie told Alternative Press: "We were
excited to work with Kai again. He's super creative and we love his visual
aesthetic. We managed to film almost the whole thing in one day at a cemetery
in Queens. It was freezing cold and snowing out but totally worth it. The end
result looks amazing."
Watch the video below:
I think many people can relate to the song. Addictive and toxic relationships happen more often than a lot of us may be aware of and sometimes its good to breakaway from them regardless of how good they feel.
