Last week Lana del Rey released the lead single of
“Ultraviolence”, her new album, called “West Coast”. To me it picks up where
she left off with a little more rocker sound, which is good. The song was
co-written by Lana and Rick Nowels (who has worked with her before and artists such
as John Legend, Lykki Li, Robyn, Madonna, Cee-Lo Green, among others) and
produced by Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys.
It only took her forever to release new music and people
were getting sick and tired of waiting but it all paid off in the end. The
proof is that as soon as she released the song to the world last Monday, every
social network was blowing up with Lana-related posts. She had premiered the
song the day before in the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts
Festival to a very loving crowd that went crazy during her entire set.

I think the song is exactly the kind of sound people
associate Del Rey with. I mean, why change the formula when it is working just
fine? And the lyrics as well. Every single song from her has a particular line
that sticks with you, in this case is the very first line: “Down on the West Coast they got a saying,
‘if you’re not drinking then you’re not playing’”, and trust me, you are
going to see that it everywhere now. On the other hand, even though I have
always said that in order to listen to her one has to be in a very particular
mood, this new love song of hers does the trick and it didn’t take me a while
to like it (like it has happened to me with previous songs from her).
The second quarter of 2014 is bound to be very successful
for the American songstress. With the released of her new single/album, her
performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival along with “Once
Upon A Dream”, the soundtrack from the upcoming Disney movie “Maleficent”, she
is going to be everywhere. Also, the timing for “West Coast” is perfect since
it is around this time of the year where the song that is going to be chosen
later in the year as the “Song of the summer” is released, and who knows maybe the
summer of 2014 ends up being Lana’s, after all she is very well loved in the
pop music world.
